HIWT begins renovation, donates fountain

The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology recently began a major renovation project for a new 9,000-sq.-ft. welcome center. This center will greet visitors to campus and act as a centerpiece for prospective students. The space will open to a large student resource center that will house a library, meeting spaces and a 50-seat auditorium, and will be outfitted with VR technology and PCs to assist with career searching activities. As part of the project, HIWT donated the fountain that sat in front of the building to the Miami County Park District to be displayed at the Hobart Urban Nature Preserve. Dedicated in 1967 to commemorate Hobart Brothers 50th anniversary, the tower is more than 19 ft. high and weighs 2,700 lbs., making it one of the largest bronze sculptures in the United States.
