Coldwater Machine Co. has been selected to help commercialize Ohio State University’s vaporizing foil actuator welding technology. Through this joining process, which can weld dissimilar metals, an aluminum foil actuator is electrically vaporized by means of a capacitor bank, generating a high pressure pulse that drives one metallic workpiece toward the other with the resulting impact causing the metals to weld together, forming an atomic bond upon contact. This process was invented and patented by Ohio State in 2012. The company also named Daniel Barry vice president of sales and marketing. Barry will be responsible for developing strategies to grow the company’s sales, managing the sales team and overseeing marketing functions.
